What Are Pokémon?

Pokémon is a Japanese media franchise centered around fictional creatures called Pokémon, where humans, known as Trainers, coexist with them together to battle and explore a world filled with these creatures with the ultimate goal of completing the Pokédex and "catching em all". The franchise started as just role-playing games developed by Game Freak, from an original concept by its founder, Satoshi Tajiri. released on the Game Boy on 27 February 1996. From there, the rest was history. Pokémon engulfed the world, becoming one of, if not, the most popular franchises ever.
